Description

The UC San Diego Division of Extended Studies Futures programs enable students to fulfill their passions, explore new interests and gain hands-on experience before they enter the workforce or apply for college. Each program is designed specifically for high school students. The cutting-edge coursework is taught by leading industry experts in high demand fields. All programs culminate in an Award of Completion issued by UC San Diego Division of Extended Studies for use on college applications and resumes. Instructors applying for this position will:

  • Instruct students and facilitate their learning in accordance with Pre-College policies and guidelines.
  • Guide students in educational activities designed to promote intellectual, social, and physical growth.
  • Teach the essential skills that will contribute to students’ development as educated and responsible adults.

Courses will include:

  • Introduction to AutoCAD
  • Working Drawings through AutoCAD
  • Advanced Working Drawings through AutoCAD
 

A reasonable estimate of compensation for teaching one section of this course is $825-$2,500. The amount determined within the compensation range is dependent upon course modality, units of instruction, and number of enrollments. Instructional agreements are made on a section-by-section basis at the discretion of the University with no guarantee to teach future sections of this course or any other courses.

As a condition of employment, the finalist will be required to disclose if they are subject to any final administrative or judicial decisions within the last seven years determining that they committed any misconduct; are currently being investigated for misconduct; left a position during an investigation for alleged misconduct; or have filed an appeal with a previous employer. SPECIFIC DUTIES

  • Design interactive and motivational activities to fully engage participants and to reinforce student learning
  • Provide quality and technically relevant instruction in AutoCAD best practices
  • Provide continual feedback and various methods of assessment measurement by ensuring student mastery of the following learning outcomes:
    • Basic drawing, editing, and viewing tools and organization of drawing objects on layers
    • Inserting reusable blocks and creating advanced object types such as arcs, polylines, polygons, and ellipses
    • Setting up and organizing layouts in AutoCAD and creating and editing text in a drawing
    • Applying dimensions to drawings and demonstrating how to annotate drawings
    • How to better utilize productivity tools and work with constraints
    • Creation and organization of more advanced blocks and layouts as well as building templates and annotations styles from scratch
    • Creating advanced dynamic blocks and attributes, learning about sheet sets and publishing and using collaboration tools while managing layers and learning to use the right tools for optimal performance
  • Design syllabus and curriculum as assigned
  • Communicate expectations to students
  • Prepare and deliver course materials: face-to-face, online, and/or in combination
  • Evaluate student learning and assign grades
  • Respond to student needs and questions
  • Create a high-performance environment in which students of diverse backgrounds are motivated to succeed
  • Apply technology and leverage resources appropriately to enhance the curriculum (e.g. use Canvas or make arrangements for guest speakers)
  • Handle mechanics of position according to deadlines (LOAs, texts, A/V, grade submission, etc.)
  • Communicate with Program Manager and Instructor Services Team on a timely basis
  • Employ cultural competencies to reach any international students in assigned classes


 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advanced degree from an accredited institution is preferred; in exceptional cases an equivalent combination of education in progress and work experience may be accepted
  • Current knowledge of and demonstrated proficiency in subject area
  • Current participation in industry-related professional associations



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Highly effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to convey conceptual and complex ideas and information
  • Highly effective interpersonal skills
  • Experience designing curriculum and measuring student performance
  • Experience working with high school students


SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

As an academic department within UC San Diego, all Division of Extended Studies Program instructors and courses must be formally approved according to the regulations of the Academic Senate of the University of California. Eligibility to teach a course is contingent upon this formal academic approval. Once approved, teaching assignments are “by agreement”. The instructor’s Letter of Agreement outlines the deliverables for the course, the course schedule, and compensation terms, and is subject to department policies and procedures.  UC San Diego Division of Extended Studies makes no commitment to hire an instructor until it has sent and received a signed instructor Letter of Agreement. Should the course section an instructor plans to teach be cancelled for any reason, the instructor agreement, including rights to compensation for future section meetings, is voided.  Remuneration is for classroom hours only and does not include time spent for course preparation or other events.
