Description
Case Management Instructor
UC San Diego Extension’s Healthcare Department seeks applicants to be instructors in the area of case management. Case managers, who function as both patient advocates and as business analysts, are employed in a range of health care settings(managed care organizations, workers compensation, behavioral health, insurance, et al) and in independent practice. UC San Diego Extension wants to expand its continuing education offerings in case management to address the need for well-trained case managers.  In addition, we welcome topics suggested by the applicant that may not already be available to students through our portfolio.

SPECIFIC DUTIES
Instructors should have extensive knowledge and skills in case management related topics.  Specific duties include in-class, or online, instruction to participants who are currently working in case management who want to enhance their jobs, or who want to enter the field.  Instructors should be able to teach an immense amount of detailed information in a creative and engaging manner to a large number of participants who are adult learners.  Additional specific duties include:
  • Provide excellent instruction demonstrating well-honed adult training techniques;
  • Carefully and continually enhance course curriculum in consultation with the Department Director, Program Representative and Advisory Committee, and associated course evaluations;
  • Follow all procedures, including the completion of all instructor and student pre- and post-course paperwork.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum qualifications would include at least eight (8) years experience in case management plus a masters’ degree or license in a related field. CCM certification is a plus. In addition, applicants should have strong knowledge of adult continuing education including program design and delivery, and a minimum of three (3) years of teaching experience.  It is preferred that applicants have knowledge of online course development and delivery.  Proficiency in current instructional technology (e.g. Powerpoint) is required.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
As an academic department within UC San Diego, all Extension Program instructors and courses must be formally approved according to the regulations of the Academic Senate of the University of California. Eligibility to teach a course is contingent upon this formal academic approval. Once approved, teaching assignments are “by agreement”. The instructor’s Letter of Agreement outlines the deliverables for the course, the course schedule, and compensation terms, and is subject to department policies and procedures.  UC San Diego Extension makes no commitment to hire an instructor until it has sent and received a signed instructor Letter of Agreement. Should the course section an instructor plans to teach be cancelled for any reason, the instructor agreement, including rights to compensation for future section meetings, is voided.  Remuneration is for classroom hours only and does not include time spent for course preparation or other events.
